You would think that planning an elopement would be fairly easy, right? That’s the whole point, not having to plan a whole big to-do.
I think the hardest part of planning an elopement is choosing the location, in fact, that pops up in elopement Facebook groups almost daily. “Where should we elope?” “Where are the best elopement locations?” “How do we choose an elopement location?”
Literally, DAILY.
Once you choose your location, everything else kind of falls into place. It’s then that you can find your officiant, your photographer and/or videographer, your honeymoon suite, etc.
So I have three pieces of advice to help make this decision for you.
What is meaningful to you? Are there places that are extra special to your relationship? Perhaps a first vacation spot, the place where they proposed, or even your favorite taco shop.
Choosing a location doesn’t have to be this daunting task – it can be a fun walk down memory lane. And you also don’t need to trek all the way out to Iceland to get married on a glacier (unless you want to, which would be really cool!). You can have a beautiful, meaningful elopement right where you live.
2. Look at Your Bucket List
Speaking of Iceland…consider your bucket list. Are there places that you have both always wanted to go? What a better opportunity than your wedding to check that one off the list? If your boss is ever going to give you some leeway on time off, it’s going to be for your wedding weekend. So why not take advantage of that.
3. Think About Your Favorite Activities
What do you enjoy doing together? Why not celebrate your love by doing something you love? Deep sea fishing? Charter a boat. Hiking? Hike to an epic location together and have your ceremony at the top. Pizza? Rent a room at your favorite pizza joint. The sky is literally the limit with what you can do and where for your elopement.
That’s one of the best things about eloping, you can do almost anything you want – it’s your day, celebrate it your way!
