If you’re looking for a wedding with breathtaking mountain views and an unforgettable outdoor setting, you should get married at Pretty Place at YMCA Camp Greenville. Nestled high above the Blue Ridge in northern Greenville County, South Carolina, Pretty Place, officially Fred W. Symmes Chapel, offers one of the most stunning ceremony backdrops in the Southeast.

Pretty Place isn’t just a venue, it’s an experience. Perched atop Standing Stone Mountain, this open-air chapel offers panoramic views of rolling foothills that seem to stretch forever. The natural beauty becomes your altar, and the sky above becomes part of the décor, whether it’s a glowing sunrise, soft sunset hues, or a dramatic cloud inversion.
This magical setting is why couples from across the country choose Pretty Place for their wedding ceremony year after year, it routinely hosts hundreds of weddings and attracts visitors simply for its beauty and serenity.
Pretty Place is extremely popular, especially in spring and fall. Reservations open early (often for calendar years well in advance), so plan to book 12–18 months before your ideal date. You can always try for sooner dates, you might get lucky.
All weddings are booked directly with YMCA Camp Greenville. The official process typically involves calling, leaving a voicemail with your name and preferred date/time on a designated date (often February 1 for the next year), and waiting for a callback from the event coordinator to confirm availability.
Pretty Place is strictly a ceremony-only venue. Weddings are scheduled in two-hour blocks that include setup, ceremony, photos, and cleanup. You can add extra hours if needed, but slots are limited.
Since Pretty Place is located in South Carolina, you and your officiant must obtain a SC marriage license before your big day. This is essential and should be handled well ahead of your ceremony. If you want to know more about your marriage license, you can read more about that here.
Mountain roads to the chapel are winding, and parking is somewhat limited, so encourage car-pooling or consider a plan to help guests arrive on time. Let them know the expected travel time from Greenville or other gathering points.
Pretty Place doesn’t offer on-site reception space, catering, or climate-controlled facilities. Once your ceremony wraps, most couples host celebrations nearby in Greenville, Travelers Rest, Asheville, or even at cabins and lodges in the region.
Some of my favorite places to celebrate after are:
Rates vary based on day of the week and season, but a typical two-hour ceremony rental often falls in the $2,000–$3,000 range, with additional time and optional sound equipment available for extra fees.
The Chapel rental generally includes seating, parking, and restrooms (seasonal), but you’re responsible for your own vendors officiant, photographer, florist, music, and anything else you want for your ceremony.
Sunrise or sunset ceremonies offer the most dramatic light, sunrise for soft golden tones and sunrise vistas, sunset for warm colors and deep mountain shadows. Because Pretty Place is East facing, sunrise will provide the better lighting. As it’s in the mountains, also know that the sun will set quicker than you expect. And if it’s cloudy, it will be dark.
Keep weather in mind: It’s an open-air chapel, so dress accordingly, warm layers for cool mornings or shade plans for summer weddings.
Photography is essential: With views like these, many couples schedule time after the ceremony for portraits overlooking the valley. Due to the nature of the chapel, you’ll want to ensure you hire a photographer that understands lighting.
Marrying at Pretty Place Chapel is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the sweeping mountain views to the intimate and spiritual feel of the open-air structure, it’s a ceremony location that elevates your vows against the grandeur of nature. Just remember: plan early, book thoughtfully, and prepare to say I do surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Carolinas.
And of course, if you’re ready to book your Pretty Place elopement or micro-wedding and are looking for a photographer, let’s chat.
