Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.
It’s that well-known line from The Devil Wears Prada that Meryl Streep delivers with utter contempt that I think of every time I see big spring florals. That doesn’t make me want less florals. Especially the colorful ones!
The Venue: The Island House, John’s Island, South Carolina
Samantha and Joseph got married at The Island House outside of Charleston, South Carolina. The venue boasts of a sweeping view of the Stono River, an iconic mansion with dramatic textured red walls, and magnificent oak trees. John’s Island, where the venue is located, is about 20 minutes from downtown Charleston. It’s a great location for guests traveling from out of town.
The Dress
This dress was actually Samantha’s mother’s dress! She had it altered to be more modern. This is such a special way of honoring your mother and the dress was absolutely beautiful!
The Details
Every detail of this wedding was intricately thought out, from the cups to the bouquets, to the table displays. Everything was colorful, bright, cohesive wildflower themed.
Bridesmaid Dresses
There’s a new trend of allowing bridesmaids to choose their own dresses and keeping things slightly less formal. It’s such a lovely trend. Allowing people to choose their own dresses gives them a real opportunity to actually wear the dress again! It always breaks up the standard matchy matchyness that you see at most weddings. It allows the bridesmaids to showcase their personalities and be comfortable in something they chose to wear.
The Island House Dock
The Island House allows for use of their dock for wedding portraits (only for the portraits). They usually are blessed with absolutely amazing sunsets (which is not unique in Charleston – we get some pretty fantastic sunsets!).
